			Main Ingredients
- 2 large Granny Smith apples
- 1 cup all purpose flour (130 grams)
- 1 tablespoon apple pie spice
- 3 large eggs
- 1/4 cup cinnamon sugar
- cooking spray or oil in a spray bottle
Dip Ingredients
- 1 cup confectioners sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1-2 tablespoons whole milk
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Peel the Granny Smith apples and slice them into thin strips using a sharp knife or fry cutter. Set the apple fries aside for coating.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, combine the all purpose flour with the apple pie spice and whisk well to incorporate the spice evenly.
- Whisk Eggs: In a separate bowl, whisk the three eggs until smooth and uniform.
- Coat the Apple Fries: Working in small batches, toss the apple fries into the flour-spice mixture, scoop them out with a slotted spoon, and shake off excess flour. Then dip each fry into the whisked eggs, shake off excess egg, and return them to the flour-spice mixture to coat again. Shake off extra flour carefully to ensure crispiness.
- Prepare for Air Frying: Place the coated apple fries on a wire rack lined with parchment paper to catch excess flour for easy cleanup.
- Preheat Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 325ºF and allow it to preheat.
- Arrange and Spray Fries: Generously spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or oil spray. Place the apple fries in the basket in a single layer without overlapping. Spray the tops of the fries generously with cooking oil.
- Air Fry the Fries: Cook the fries for 5 minutes, then turn them over, spray again, and cook for an additional 5 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Sugar the Fries: Remove the fries while hot, place them onto a cooling rack or basket, and immediately sprinkle with cinnamon sugar so it sticks well.
- Cook Remaining Batches: Repeat air frying and sprinkling process with any remaining coated apple fries, tossing them in cinnamon sugar while still warm.
- Prepare the Vanilla Glaze Dip: In a small bowl, whisk together the confectioners sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon of whole milk. Add additional milk as needed to achieve a smooth, dip-friendly consistency.
- Serve: Serve the apple fries immediately with the vanilla glaze for dipping or drizzle the glaze over the fries for extra sweetness.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, substitute half the all purpose flour with cornstarch.
- The cinnamon sugar is essential for sweetness since the flour mixture has no sugar.
- The recipe yields about 4 servings; nutritional information is estimated and may vary by brand and ingredient choice.
- Ensure not to overlap fries in the air fryer basket to allow even crisping.
- Use Granny Smith apples for the best balance of tartness and snap.
- The fries are best enjoyed immediately after cooking for optimal texture and flavor.
