- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
For the Topping
- 2 sleeves Ritz crackers
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with nonstick spray. Set it aside for later.
- Prepare the potato mixture: In a large bowl, mix together all the main ingredients (excluding the topping). Combine until evenly mixed and spread the mixture into the prepared casserole dish.
- Bake the dish: Place the casserole dish into the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes, allowing the mixture to cook and meld together.
- Prepare the topping: In a medium bowl, combine the crushed Ritz crackers and melted butter. Mix until the crackers are well coated.
- Add the topping and bake again: Remove the casserole dish from the oven after 45 minutes. Evenly sprinkle the prepared cracker topping over the potatoes, then bake an additional 10 minutes until the topping becomes golden and crispy.
Notes
- Use shredded potatoes if you prefer over diced.
- If you like the onions cooked more, sauté them in a pan with a tablespoon of oil for about 5 minutes before adding to the mixture.
- Experiment with other toppings like cornflakes, saltines, potato chips, or french fried onions for different textures and flavors.
- Best reheated in the oven or toaster oven for crispiness, though a microwave works in a pinch.
