Ingredients

Scale

Sandwich Ingredients

  • 1 large ciabatta bread roll (or 2 smaller ciabatta rolls or hoagie rolls)
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 3.5 oz / 100 g fresh mozzarella ball
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • ¼ small iceberg lettuce
  • 1 roma tomato
  • ¼ small red onion
  • 4 pieces sun-dried tomatoes
  • 1.5 oz / 45 g marinated roasted peppers
  • 4 quarters marinated artichoke hearts
  • 4 basil leaves
  • Optional: banana peppers or pepperoncini peppers

Italian Dressing

  • 2 tablespoons whole egg mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the vegetables and cheese: Slice the roma tomato and quarter of a small red onion into thin slices. Slice the fresh mozzarella ball into circular pieces and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess moisture.
  2. Assemble ingredients on chopping board: On a large chopping board, lay down the iceberg lettuce as a base. Layer on top the tomato slices, provolone cheese slices, red onion slices, mozzarella circles, sun-dried tomatoes, marinated roasted peppers, marinated artichoke hearts, and fresh basil leaves.
  3. Chop the filling: Using a sharp knife, finely chop all the layered ingredients together into small pieces, ensuring the flavors distribute evenly.
  4. Add and mix Italian dressing: Add the mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, dried oregano, freshly grated parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil directly onto the chopped mixture. Use the knife or a spoon to fold and mix the dressing thoroughly, coating all ingredients well.
  5. Prepare the bread: Slice the ciabatta bread roll lengthwise in half. Scoop the chopped, dressed filling generously into the bottom half of the bread. Optionally, press the top half of the bread gently on top of the filling to compact it slightly.
  6. Serve and enjoy: Present your jam-packed Chopped Italian Sandwich immediately and dig in for a fresh, flavorful bite.

Notes

  • Use fresh mozzarella drained well to prevent sogginess.
  • You can add optional banana peppers or pepperoncini for extra tang and heat.
  • The sandwich is best eaten fresh but can be wrapped tightly and refrigerated for up to a day.
  • For a crunchier texture, lightly toast the ciabatta bread before assembling.
  • Adjust salt and pepper according to taste preference as the marinated vegetables and cheeses may add saltiness.
