Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 1 stick of butter (1/2 cup)
- 30 large marshmallows
- 6 drops green gel food coloring or 1 and 1/4 teaspoons liquid green food coloring
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 5 cups cornflakes
Decoration
- 1 bottle of red hot candies or 1/2 cup red candy coated chocolates such as mini M&M’s
Other
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- Prepare Pan: Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
- Melt Marshmallows and Butter: Place the marshmallows and butter together in a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until both are completely melted and smooth.
- Add Color and Flavor: Stir in the green food coloring and vanilla extract into the melted marshmallow mixture until uniformly colored and smooth.
- Coat Cornflakes: Gently fold the cornflakes into the marshmallow mixture. Stir carefully to ensure every flake is evenly coated without crushing them.
- Form Wreath Shapes: Lightly grease a 1/4 cup measuring cup with cooking spray, then pack the cornflake mixture firmly into it. Turn the mixture out onto the prepared sheet pan. Using your fingers (dampened or sprayed with cooking spray to prevent sticking), create a hole in the middle to form the wreath shape.
- Decorate: Press red hot candies or red candy coated chocolates onto the wreath shapes to resemble ornaments.
- Set and Serve: Allow the wreath cookies to cool completely at room temperature until they are firm and set. Once ready, serve and enjoy your festive treats.
Notes
- Use damp or greased fingers to prevent the sticky mixture from adhering to your hands while shaping wreaths.
- These cookies do not require baking, making them a quick and kid-friendly holiday treat.
- You can substitute red candies with any festive-colored candies to customize the look.
- Store the cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh for up to 3 days.
- For a gluten-free version, ensure the cornflakes used are gluten-free certified.
