Description

This delicious Shrimp & Crab Dip is a creamy, cheesy seafood appetizer featuring fresh snow crab meat and succulent shrimp, combined with cream cheese, mayo, sour cream, cheddar, and Parmesan cheeses, and seasoned with Old Bay and lemon zest. Baked to bubbly perfection and topped with fresh green onions and tomatoes, it’s perfect for serving with crackers, crostini, or veggies at any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Seafood

  • 8 ounces cooked fresh snow crab meat, chopped into ½” pieces
  • 8 ounces cooked medium shrimp, tails removed and chopped into ¼” pieces

Dairy & Condiments

  • 8 ounces regular cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup good quality mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup regular sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded medium cheddar cheese
  • ¾ cup shredded Parmesan cheese, divided

Produce & Seasonings

  • ¼ cup chopped green onion
  • 4 large cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • Sliced green onion and chopped Roma tomato for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Drain Moisture: Preheat your oven to 400°F. Press the crab and shrimp between paper towels repeatedly until excess moisture is removed to prevent a watery dip.
  2. Mix Base Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  3. Add Cheeses and Seasonings: Mix in the shredded cheddar cheese, half (½ cup) of the Parmesan cheese, chopped green onion, minced garlic, Old Bay seasoning, and lemon zest until evenly incorporated.
  4. Fold in Seafood: Gently fold the chopped crab and shrimp into the creamy cheese mixture, taking care not to break up the seafood too much.
  5. Prepare for Baking: Transfer the dip mixture into a baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese over the top for a golden crust.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and the top is lightly browned.
  7. Rest and Garnish: Remove the dip from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes to thicken slightly. Sprinkle sliced green onion and chopped Roma tomato on top for freshness and color.
  8. Serve: Serve hot with your choice of crackers, crostini, tortilla chips, celery sticks, and/or carrots for dipping.

Notes

  • For the best flavor and texture, shell freshly cooked crab legs rather than using canned or pre-packaged crab meat.
  • Make sure to press out all excess moisture from the crab and shrimp to avoid a watery dip.
  • This dip is best served fresh and hot but can be made ahead and reheated.
  • Old Bay seasoning adds a unique seafood flavor; if unavailable, use a Cajun or seafood seasoning blend.
