Description

Warm and comforting Crockpot Apple Cider made from fresh apples, spices, and citrus. This easy slow-cooked cider is perfect for cozy fall and winter days, offering a naturally sweet and spiced beverage without any preservatives or artificial flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds apples, chopped (any eating apple such as Ambrosia and Honey Crisp)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 orange, chopped
  • 2 quarts water

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Place the chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, ground allspice, whole cloves, chopped orange, and water into the crock pot.
  2. Cook Slowly: Set the crockpot on low and cook for 6 hours, allowing the apples and spices to infuse and soften thoroughly.
  3. Mash the Fruit: After cooking, use a potato masher to mash the softened apples and orange segments directly in the crockpot to release more juice and flavor.
  4. Extract Juice: Squeeze out as much juice as possible from the mashed fruit using your hands or a fine mesh strainer sleeve to separate the liquid cider from the solids.
  5. Strain and Serve: Pour the extracted cider through a fine mesh sleeve to remove remaining pulp and chunks, resulting in a smooth apple cider.
  6. Store or Enjoy: Drink the cider immediately while warm or allow it to cool and store it in an airtight container. For freezing, fill jars 4/5 full and seal tightly.

Notes

  • If freezing the cider, use a freezer-safe jar filled about 80% full with a tightly fitting lid to allow for expansion.
  • This cider is best served warm but can be enjoyed chilled as well.
  • Feel free to adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar according to your taste.
  • The recipe works well with any eating apples, but using a mix like Ambrosia and Honey Crisp yields a balanced flavor.
