Description

Dracula Cookies are a fun and spooky treat perfect for Halloween parties or any festive gathering. These chocolate chip cookie sandwiches are decorated to look like Dracula’s mouth, complete with red ‘blood’ frosting and marshmallow teeth accented by almond fangs. Quick to prepare and delightfully delicious, they make a playful dessert that kids and adults will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookies

  • 1 30-ounce tube refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough

Frosting

  • 1 16-ounce can vanilla frosting
  • Red food coloring

Decorations

  • 1 cup mini marshmallows (about 70-80 marshmallows)
  • Slivered almonds (a handful, for fangs)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Shape Dough: Shape the cookie dough into 1 ½ inch balls (about 2 tablespoons each) and place them on the cookie sheet, leaving at least two inches of space between each cookie to allow for spreading. You should be able to get about 12 cookies from one tube of dough.
  3. Bake Cookies: Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until they are cooked through and slightly golden around the edges.
  4. Cool Cookies: Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack to ensure the frosting won’t melt when applied.
  5. Prepare Frosting: Add red food coloring to the vanilla frosting gradually until you achieve a vibrant blood-red color, perfect for Dracula’s signature look.
  6. Assemble Sandwiches: Cut each cookie in half horizontally. Spread a thin layer of the red-colored frosting on the underside of each cookie half. On one half, arrange 6 or 7 mini marshmallows along the round edge to simulate teeth.
  7. Create Dracula Mouth: Place the second frosted cookie half on top of the marshmallow-coated half to form a sandwich that resembles Dracula’s mouth.
  8. Add Fangs: Insert two pointy slivered almonds among the marshmallow teeth to mimic sharp vampire fangs, completing the spooky look.

Notes

  • Work quickly when applying the frosting and assembling to prevent the icing from drying before the sandwich is made. Decorate just one or two cookies at a time.
  • Feel free to use homemade chocolate chip cookies or other flavors of refrigerated cookie dough if preferred.
  • For a shortcut, you can use red decorating icing found in the baking aisle or seasonal section instead of mixing your own red frosting.
  • To make these cookies nut-free, replace almond fangs with small pieces of white chocolate melting wafers.
  • Store the finished cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days to maintain freshness.
