Description

French Toast

  • 1 loaf of bread (Brioche or French recommended)
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp orange juice (optional)

Brown Sugar Cinnamon Topping

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Optional Toppings

  • Maple Syrup
  • Powdered Sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the French Toast Mixture: Cut or tear bread into cubes, whisk eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and orange juice. Combine with bread cubes.
  2. Refrigerate: Transfer mixture to a baking dish, refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  3. Preheat Oven: Preheat to 375°F.
  4. Make Topping: Whisk melted butter, sugars, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Top and Bake: Spoon topping over casserole, bake for 35-45 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Cool and Serve: Cool for 10 minutes, then serve with optional toppings.

Notes

  • To store – store leftover French toast casserole covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • To freeze – prepare casserole in a freezer safe container and freeze for up to 3 months. Bake from frozen at 350°F for 30 minutes after thawing overnight in the refrigerator.
