Description

Galaxy Donuts are fluffy, visually stunning homemade donuts with a colorful, galaxy-inspired glaze. The dough is enriched, light, and perfect for frying or baking, topped with a vibrant swirled glaze that combines sweet flavors with a cosmic touch.

Ingredients

Scale

Donuts:

  • 4 cups of flour
  • ¼ cup and 1 tbsp of sugar
  • 1 tbsp of instant dry yeast
  • 3 tbsp of margarine
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup and 2 tbsp of soy milk
  • ¼ cup and 3 tbsp of water
  • ½ tsp of salt

Glazing:

  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp of soy milk
  • Food coloring of your choice (blue, red, yellow recommended)

Instructions

  1. Mix Dough Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and instant dry yeast. Add the egg, soy milk, water, and margarine, stirring to form a dough suitable for kneading.
  2. Knead the Dough: Using your palms, push the dough down and away, then fold it inward repeatedly for 5 to 10 minutes until the dough is smooth, fluffy, and no longer sticky.
  3. Let Dough Rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a large bowl. Cover with cloth or food film and let it rise for 2 hours until doubled or tripled in size.
  4. Roll and Cut Donuts: On a floured surface, roll the dough to ⅓ inch thickness. Cut donuts using a donut cutter or a 3-inch mold for outer holes and a bottle cap for the center holes. Re-roll scraps and continue cutting.
  5. Cook Donuts: Heat 2 inches of oil in a medium pan on medium-high heat. Fry the donuts about 5 seconds per side or until golden brown to your liking. Alternatively, bake in a preheated oven at 390°F (200°C) for 15 minutes until golden for a healthier version with a sweet bun texture.
  6. Prepare Glaze: Mix powdered sugar and soy milk until smooth. Add food coloring drops to create a galaxy effect by swirling colors irregularly with a wooden stick.
  7. Glaze Donuts: Let the donuts cool completely, then dip or spread the glaze over them. Allow glaze to set and dry for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure the oil is at medium-high heat before frying to avoid greasy donuts.
  • Use a soy milk alternative to keep the recipe dairy-free and vegan-friendly.
  • Mixing the glaze colors in irregular motions creates the galaxy effect; experiment with color combinations for unique appearances.
  • Baking the donuts results in a less greasy, healthier option but slightly different texture, closer to a sweet bun.
  • Donuts are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
