- 1 cup white popcorn kernels
- 1 Tbsp vegetable or canola oil
- 1/4 tsp salt

- 1 package Candy Melts in your color of choice
- Sprinkles
- Eyeball Sprinkles
Instructions
- Heat the oil and pop kernels: Add vegetable oil to the bottom of a Whirley-Pop or stovetop popcorn popper along with 3 popcorn kernels. Heat over medium until the 3 kernels pop.
- Add the rest of the popcorn kernels: Pour in 1 cup of popcorn kernels and continuously turn the Whirley-Pop arm to prevent burning.
- Pop the popcorn: Continue heating and turning until popping slows almost to a stop, then turn off the heat and remove the popper from the stove.
- Season the popcorn: Pour the popped popcorn into a large bowl and sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon salt, mixing well to distribute.
- Melt the Candy Melts: Following the package instructions, melt the Candy Melts (commonly done in the microwave in short bursts, stirring in between).
- Combine popcorn with melted candy: Pour the melted Candy Melts over the salted popcorn and mix thoroughly to coat evenly.
- Decorate and set: Immediately spread the coated popcorn onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, then sprinkle with colorful sprinkles and eyeball sprinkles while the coating is still wet.
- Serve and enjoy: Allow to cool and harden slightly, then serve your festive Halloween Monster Popcorn.
Notes
- Using a Whirley-Pop helps ensure even cooking and prevents burning, but a heavy-bottomed pot with a lid and shaking method works too.
- Be careful when melting Candy Melts to avoid overheating, as they can seize or burn easily.
- You can customize colors of Candy Melts and sprinkles to match your Halloween theme.
- Store leftover popcorn in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
- This recipe makes about 5 servings, perfect for small groups or family treats.
