Ingredients

Units Scale

Green Beans:

  • 4 cups green beans, fresh, cut

Bean Mixture:

  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup cream or 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup crispy fried onions
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

Meat Mixture:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground chicken, turkey, pork, or sausage)
  • 1 small onion, chopped fine

Potato Mixture:

  • 3-4 medium-large russet potatoes, unpeeled
  • 1/2 cup cream or 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Topping:

  • 1/4 cup crispy fried onions, divided
  • 1 cup cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9×9-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
  2. Prepare Green Beans: Boil the green beans for 5 minutes until bright green, then drain.
  3. Bean Mixture: In a bowl, mix soup, soy sauce, 1/2 cup fried onions, and milk/cream. Add the green beans and mix well. Spread this mixture on the bottom of the casserole dish.
  4. Meat Mixture: Brown the ground meat with onions until cooked, then drain. Layer the meat mixture on top of the beans.
  5. Potato Mixture: Boil the potatoes until tender, then drain and return to the pot. Add butter, milk/cream, and Parmesan. Mash and blend well. Spread the mashed potatoes on top of the meat.
  6. Topping: Sprinkle crispy fried onions and shredded cheese on top of the casserole.
  7. Bake: Bake uncovered for 45 minutes. Then broil for about 5 minutes until the cheese and onions are browned. Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute the ground meat with your choice of protein for variation.
  • Feel free to add more cheese on top for a richer flavor.
