Ingredients
Scale
Turkey
- 1 (6 ½ pound) whole bone-in turkey breast
Herbed Garlic Butter
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh rosemary
- 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh thyme
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Make the herb butter: Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). In a small bowl, combine the softened butter with minced garlic, finely chopped rosemary, thyme, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated, creating a flavorful herb butter mixture.
- Coat the turkey breast: Gently separate the skin from both halves of the turkey breast using your fingers creating enough space to spread the herb butter underneath. Spread half of the butter mixture evenly under the skin, ensuring it covers all parts of the turkey breast. Smooth the skin back over the butter, then spread the remaining butter mixture evenly over the top surface of the skin. Place the prepared turkey breast in a 9×13-inch baking dish, skin side up.
- Roast: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and roast the turkey uncovered for 1 ½ to 2 hours. Roast until the skin turns a golden brown and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the breast reads 160°F (71°C). Once done, remove the turkey from the oven and cover it loosely with foil. Allow it to rest for 15 minutes; during this time, the temperature will rise to approximately 165°F (74°C), ensuring the turkey is fully cooked and juicy.
- Slice: After resting, carefully slice the turkey away from the breastbone. Then, with the turkey breast on a cutting board, slice it crosswise into desired serving pieces.
- Serve: Serve your succulent roast turkey breast with your favorite side dishes for a complete and satisfying meal. This flavorful herb butter enhances the natural taste of the turkey while keeping it moist and tender.
Notes
- Serving size: Approximately 6 ounces (170g) of turkey meat per serving.
- If using a frozen turkey breast, allow sufficient time to thaw – approximately 24 hours for every 5 pounds.
- There is no need to brine or baste the turkey during roasting, as the herb butter mixture helps keep the turkey moist.
- Make-ahead tip: Season the turkey breast the night before roasting to save time on cooking day.
