Description

A quick and easy method to make perfectly cooked, fluffy brown rice using an Instant Pot. This recipe is ideal for meal prepping or as a versatile side dish.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • Basic Ingredients:

  • 2 cups brown rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 tsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: In the insert of your InstantPot, stir together the rice, water, salt, and olive oil.
  2. Seal the InstantPot: Place the top on the InstantPot; twist to seal and lock. Turn the Steam Release Valve to “sealing.”
  3. Start cooking: Set the InstantPot to cook at High Pressure for 22 minutes.
  4. Release pressure naturally: After cooking is complete, let the pressure release naturally. This will take approximately 12 minutes.
  5. Release pressure manually: After natural release, manually release the remaining pressure by turning the Steam Release Valve to “venting.”
  6. Fluff the rice: Remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork.
  7. Steam the rice further: Place a clean kitchen towel over the insert and close the lid without locking. Let the rice steam for an additional 5 to 10 minutes.
  8. Serve warm: Fluff the rice again gently and serve as desired.

Notes

  • This recipe scales down easily; to make 4 servings, simply cut the recipe in half.
  • For a richer flavor, substitute low-sodium chicken broth for water.
  • Measure the liquid carefully; too much water can make the finished rice gummy.
  • Stir in chopped soft fresh herbs, such as parsley, dill, basil, or chives at the end of cooking for extra flavor.
  • Use leftover rice for stuffing bell peppers or making fried rice.
