Description

A decadent twist on classic French toast, this Nutella Stuffed Churro French Toast combines the comfort of soft, egg-soaked bread with a sweet Nutella filling, crispy cinnamon sugar coating, and optional toppings like frozen yogurt or fresh berries. Perfect for a luxurious breakfast or brunch treat, it offers a delightful combination of textures and flavors with minimal prep time.

Ingredients

French Toasts

1/4 cup low fat milk or almond milk
2 extra large eggs
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon sweetener/sugar of choice
4 slices thick bread of choice (such as Sourdough)

Filling and Coating

4 teaspoons Nutella (divided into 4 teaspoons)
1 tablespoon Nutella (for spreading)
4 tablespoons cinnamon sugar OR 3 tablespoons sugar mixed with 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Egg Wash: In a wide shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and sweetener until well combined. This mixture will be used to soak the bread.
  2. Assemble the Sandwiches: Spread 1 teaspoon of Nutella onto each slice of bread. Place another slice on top to form a sandwich, then spread 1 teaspoon of Nutella on the outside of each sandwich if desired.
  3. Soak the Sandwiches: Dip each sandwich into the egg wash, ensuring both sides are well coated. Let excess drip off.
  4. Cook the French Toast: Heat a nonstick skillet or pan over low-medium heat and add 1 teaspoon of butter. Place the soaked sandwiches in the skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  5. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: On a small plate, spread the cinnamon sugar mixture. Carefully press each cooked French toast sandwich into the mixture, coating all sides to resemble a churro or sugared donut.
  6. Serve: Slice if desired and serve hot, topped with a scoop of frozen yogurt, ice cream, fresh fruit, berries, or extra Nutella for added indulgence.

Notes

  • Nutrition is estimated for one serving.
  • Use thick slices of bread to prevent tearing when soaking.
  • Adjust the amount of cinnamon sugar coating to suit your taste preferences.
  • For a vegan version, substitute egg with a flaxseed or chia seed mixture and use plant-based milk.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
