Ingredients
French Toasts
1/4 cup low fat milk or almond milk2 extra large eggs
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon sweetener/sugar of choice
4 slices thick bread of choice (such as Sourdough)
Filling and Coating
4 teaspoons Nutella (divided into 4 teaspoons)1 tablespoon Nutella (for spreading)
4 tablespoons cinnamon sugar OR 3 tablespoons sugar mixed with 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare the Egg Wash: In a wide shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and sweetener until well combined. This mixture will be used to soak the bread.
- Assemble the Sandwiches: Spread 1 teaspoon of Nutella onto each slice of bread. Place another slice on top to form a sandwich, then spread 1 teaspoon of Nutella on the outside of each sandwich if desired.
- Soak the Sandwiches: Dip each sandwich into the egg wash, ensuring both sides are well coated. Let excess drip off.
- Cook the French Toast: Heat a nonstick skillet or pan over low-medium heat and add 1 teaspoon of butter. Place the soaked sandwiches in the skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: On a small plate, spread the cinnamon sugar mixture. Carefully press each cooked French toast sandwich into the mixture, coating all sides to resemble a churro or sugared donut.
- Serve: Slice if desired and serve hot, topped with a scoop of frozen yogurt, ice cream, fresh fruit, berries, or extra Nutella for added indulgence.
