Description

Delicious and easy-to-make Oreo Balls, also known as Oreo Truffles, combine crushed Oreos and cream cheese dipped in melted chocolate for a sweet, creamy treat perfect for parties or a special indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 36 Oreos (original, not doublestuf), plus 3 more, crushed for topping if desired
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened

Coating

  • 16 oz vanilla or chocolate candy melts, or melted white chocolate, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate

Optional Peppermint Variation

  • 1 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
  • Crushed peppermint bits, crushed candy canes, or crushed starlight mints for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare Baking Sheet: Line an 18 by 13-inch baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper to prevent sticking during the dipping process.
  2. Crush Oreos: Place 36 whole Oreos (do not remove cream filling) into a food processor and pulse until they are fine crumbs. Alternatively, place Oreos in a resealable bag and crush with a rolling pin until finely crushed.
  3. Mix Cream Cheese: Add softened cream cheese to the crushed Oreos and pulse in bursts until well combined. If using peppermint variation, mix peppermint extract with cream cheese first before adding Oreo crumbs.
  4. Form Balls: Scoop out about 1 tablespoon of mixture at a time and roll into 1-inch balls. Place these balls in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Chill: Place the baking sheet with Oreo balls in the freezer for 15 minutes to firm up the mixture for easier dipping.
  6. Prepare Topping: While the balls chill, crush the remaining 3 Oreos for topping or prepare peppermint bits if using the peppermint version.
  7. Melt Chocolate: Melt the candy melts or chocolate according to package directions, ensuring a smooth consistency for dipping.
  8. Dip Balls: Remove truffles from freezer and dip each ball into melted chocolate, using a spoon to pour chocolate over the top. Lift and let excess chocolate drip off.
  9. Add Toppings: Return each dipped truffle to the baking sheet and immediately sprinkle with crushed Oreos or peppermint bits as desired.
  10. Set Chocolate: Allow the chocolate coating to set fully at room temperature or place in the refrigerator to speed up the process.
  11. Store: Store finished Oreo balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Notes

  • If you don’t have a food processor, place Oreos in a large resealable bag and crush with a rolling pin to fine crumbs.
  • If you don’t own a mixer, mix cream cheese and Oreo crumbs manually with a spoon or spatula until well combined.
  • For a festive peppermint version, add 1 1/2 tsp peppermint extract to cream cheese before mixing with Oreo crumbs, and sprinkle with crushed peppermint candies instead of Oreos.
  • Use any type of chocolate coating you prefer, such as white, milk, or dark chocolate melts.
  • Store the truffles in the fridge to maintain freshness and keep chocolate firm.
