Description

A simple, colorful, and sweet dessert recipe using sugar cookie dough and Peeps to create festive cookie bars perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

    • 16.5 oz tube of sugar cookie dough (found in the refrigerated cookie area of any grocery store)

Topping

  • 8 Peeps (more or less as desired, various colors)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Prepare the baking dish: Apply nonstick spray generously to a square baking dish to prevent sticking.
  3. Layer the cookie dough: Divide the sugar cookie dough in half. Press one half into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, leveling it out evenly to form the crust.
  4. Arrange the Peeps: Place Peeps in various colors on top of the dough in the bottom layer. Feel free to arrange them creatively for aesthetic appeal.
  5. Add the top layer: Use the remaining half of the sugar cookie dough in small chunks. Evenly distribute these chunks over the Peeps.
  6. First baking step: Place the baking dish into the preheated oven and bake for 8 minutes.
  7. Prepare your spatula: While the cookie bars bake, coat a spatula with nonstick spray to keep the ingredients from sticking while you work with them.
  8. Mix and swirl: Remove the dish from the oven. Using the prepared spatula, gently swirl and mix the melted Peeps on the surface. Be careful not to push down into the bottom crust.
  9. Finish baking: Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 12 minutes, or until the sugar cookie dough achieves a golden color.
  10. Cool the dish: Allow the dish to cool completely at room temperature before placing it in the refrigerator.
  11. Chill the bars: Transfer the dish to the refrigerator for about an hour to firm up the cookie bars for easy cutting.
  12. Cut into bars: Use a butter knife coated with nonstick spray to neatly cut the cookies into square bars. Serve and enjoy.

Notes
