Description

A festive and colorful Seven Layer Spider Dip featuring layers of refried beans, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, tomatoes, onions, and garnishes, topped with a fun spider web design made from sour cream. Perfect for parties and Halloween gatherings, served with tortilla chips.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Layers

  • 1 cup refried beans (8 oz can)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream for the dip
  • 1 cup guacamole (8 oz packet or homemade)

Toppings

  • 1/4 cup shredded Mexican cheese
  • 1/2 medium tomato (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 medium red onion (diced)
  • A handful of black olives, jalapeños, and/or scallions (thinly sliced)

Decoration

  • 2 tbsp sour cream for the spider web
  • Optional: a black olive or plastic spider for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dish: Choose a clear, round dish like a Pyrex baking dish to allow the layers to be visible and to enhance the spider-web visual effect.
  2. Warm the refried beans: Heat 1 cup of refried beans in a saucepan on the stove or microwave until warmed through.
  3. Layer the beans: Spread an even layer of the warmed refried beans at the bottom of the dish.
  4. Add sour cream layer: Spread about 1/2 cup of sour cream evenly over the refried beans to form a layer approximately 1/2 inch thick.
  5. Add guacamole: Spread about 1 cup of guacamole evenly on top of the sour cream layer to create a smooth, green surface.
  6. Create cheese ring: Sprinkle 1/4 cup of shredded Mexican cheese along the outer edge of the guacamole to form a ring.
  7. Add tomato layer: Evenly scatter finely chopped tomatoes (about 1/2 medium tomato) over the cheese ring and guacamole.
  8. Add onion layer: Sprinkle diced red onions (about 1/4 medium onion) evenly on top of the tomatoes.
  9. Add garnish: Distribute a handful of thinly sliced black olives, jalapeños, and/or scallions over the onion layer.
  10. Create the spider web: Place 2 tbsp of thick sour cream into a small squirt bottle and carefully draw a spider web pattern across the guacamole layer.
  11. Add spider decoration: Place a black olive or a plastic spider in the center of the web for a festive touch.
  12. Serve: Serve the dip with your favorite tortilla chips such as Tostitos Scoops and enjoy!

Notes

  • To make a regular Seven Layer Dip without the spider web, omit the sour cream decoration and spread extra shredded cheese and toppings evenly.
  • This recipe is my personal and tested version; feel free to customize the garnishes to your liking.
  • For a vegan version, use vegan cheese, vegan sour cream, and ensure the refried beans are vegan-friendly.
  • Using a clear, round dish enhances the visual appeal and makes the layers more impressive.
