Description

Tender and flavorful Crockpot French Dip Sandwiches made with slow-cooked beef chuck roast, seasoned with garlic and onion powder, and served on toasted hoagie rolls with melted provolone cheese and a rich au jus for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef chuck roast
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: Pat the beef chuck roast dry with paper towels. Rub the roast evenly with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to season thoroughly.
  2. Sear the Beef: In a skillet over medium-high heat, sear the seasoned beef on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side. This step adds depth of flavor but can be omitted for simplicity.
  3. Transfer to Crockpot: Place the seared or unseared roast into the Crockpot, ensuring it sits evenly.
  4. Add Liquid Mixture: In a bowl, combine beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Pour this mixture over the beef in the Crockpot to create a flavorful cooking liquid.
  5. Slow Cook: Cover the Crockpot and cook on low heat for 8 hours, or until the beef becomes tender and shreds easily with a fork.
  6. Shred the Beef: Remove the roast from the Crockpot and let it rest for 5 minutes. Using two forks, shred the beef into bite-sized pieces.
  7. Soak in Au Jus: Return the shredded beef to the Crockpot to soak up the cooking juices for a few minutes, enhancing flavor and moisture.
  8. Prepare Rolls and Cheese: Slice the hoagie rolls open. If desired, place provolone cheese slices on the rolls and melt under a broiler for 1-2 minutes until bubbly and slightly browned.
  9. Assemble Sandwiches: Fill each hoagie roll generously with the shredded beef. Serve with a small bowl of the au jus for dipping and garnish with fresh parsley if preferred.

Notes

  • For additional flavor, add sliced onions or bell peppers to the Crockpot during cooking.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat leftovers with a splash of beef broth to keep the meat moist and flavorful.
  • Cheese is optional but adds a delightful creamy texture to the sandwiches.
  • Skipping the searing step reduces prep time but may slightly affect the depth of flavor.
