Description

A delicious and easy-to-make Southern Chicken Bird Dog Sandwich recipe that combines crispy chicken tenders, crumbled bacon, melted cheddar cheese, and honey mustard in a perfectly toasted bun. Perfect for a quick meal or gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 6 hot dog buns
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon, cooked crispy and crumbled
  • 6 cooked breaded chicken tenders

Toppings

  • 1 & 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Honey mustard to serve

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Begin by preheating the oven to 350°F to prepare for toasting the buns and melting the cheese.
  2. Prepare the buns: Place the hot dog buns on a sheet tray. Add half of the crispy bacon to the inside of each bun to begin layering the flavors.
  3. Add the chicken tenders: Place a cooked breaded chicken tender into each bun, ensuring they fit snugly inside.
  4. Top with remaining bacon and cheese: Sprinkle the remaining crispy bacon on top of the chicken tenders. Then, evenly distribute the shredded sharp cheddar cheese over the tops of the buns.
  5. Bake until toasted: Place the tray into the preheated oven and bake for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the buns are lightly toasted.
  6. Finish with honey mustard: Remove the buns from the oven, drizzle with honey mustard to taste, and serve immediately while warm.
