Description

Celebrate Halloween with this fun and festive Creepy Halloween Spider Web Pizza featuring a crispy golden crust topped with bubbling marinara sauce, a spider web design made from string cheese, and spooky olive spiders. Perfect for a themed dinner or party, this easy-to-make pizza combines creativity with delicious flavors for a delightfully spooky treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Pizza Base

  • 1 (14- to 16-ounce) ball pizza dough (overnight recipe recommended or store-bought)
  • to ¾ cup Super-Easy Marinara Sauce or your favorite store-bought pizza sauce

For the Spider Web Toppings

  • 4 sticks whole-milk string cheese
  • 12 large pitted black olives

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 500°F if using a baking sheet or to the highest temperature possible if using a baking stone or steel, placing the stone or steel in the oven before starting to preheat to ensure it’s hot and ready.
  2. Prepare spider web and spider toppings: Pull the string cheese sticks into thin strips. Cut the olives in half lengthwise; set aside 8 halves for spider bodies and cut the remaining halves lengthwise into 4 strips each for spider legs.
  3. Shape the dough: Stretch or roll out the dough into a 12- to 14-inch circle. Transfer it to a baking sheet, pizza pan, or a lightly floured pizza peel if using a stone or steel. Prick the entire dough surface with a fork to prevent air bubbles during baking.
  4. Add sauce: Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges to keep the crust visible.
  5. Par-bake the crust: Place the sauced dough in the oven and bake until the crust looks dry and lightly golden with bubbling sauce, typically about 3 minutes on a stone or steel, or 5 minutes on a baking sheet.
  6. Create the spider web: Remove the pizza, and quickly arrange the string cheese strips on top in a spider web pattern as demonstrated in the referenced tutorial video. Place the olive halves as spider bodies and arrange their legs using the olive strips on the web.
  7. Final bake: Return the pizza to the oven and bake an additional 3 to 5 minutes until the cheese has melted and the toppings are heated through.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven, let the pizza cool slightly to set the toppings, then slice and serve your creepy Halloween creation.

Notes

  • Use whole-milk string cheese for better melting and easier pulling into strips.
  • Pricking the dough before prebaking prevents unwanted bubbles and maintains the smooth surface for the spider web design.
  • If you don’t have a baking stone or steel, a baking sheet will work fine, although baking times may be slightly longer.
  • The spiderweb design is best done quickly after par-baking while the crust is still hot, making the cheese strips stick better.
  • This pizza makes a perfect centerpiece for Halloween parties and is great for involving kids in cooking and decorating.
